The library actively contributes to the school community; designed with the student's needs in mind and set within the English block it is perfectly positioned to serve its users throughout the school day. A bright, thriving and exciting space, students are encouraged to read for pleasure amongst the vast, well-resourced stock held; support their studies with wider reading material, together with a wealth of study and revision guides. Students develop vital reading skills, increasing their success with the Accelerated Reader programme as the library provides a large selection of approved reading. Students are provided with an environment that allows them to achieve their potential and motivate life-long learning, by delivering opportunities such as reading activities, author visits, National Reading Initiatives and University programmes.
The library is open from 8am and is available for use during lesson time by subjects and for developing information literacy skills. The break and lunchtime provision sees students use the space for a variety of uses, such as private study, games and activities, reading, movies and student-led interest groups. The library is open until 4:30pm and incorporates a teacher-led homework club, supporting students with homework and project work. The librarian and the library assistant promote a positive learning environment, and are also supported by 8 student librarians. It is considered the heart of the school by staff and students alike.
